One Month Piano Reflection

Just over a month ago, I made the decision to change my primary instrument to the piano. If you’re interested, you can find out more about that here.

So what are my thoughts?

Well, this month has honestly been crazy! I have not kept up with a consistent practice schedule and my mentality has been a bit all over the place, but I do not regret the piano in any way. No matter how I look at it, it is an instrument that I want to learn and play for years to come. As for the music: I LOVE that I have so many more options at my disposal! I have seen so much sheet music, including anime, that I just want to hoard up until I can play it. For what I want to do with music, piano was the right choice, in terms of having accessibility to certain music.

In this month I have had progress in reading bass clef (faster than what I could before) and slowly reading two rhythms at once. It is hard to read both clefs at once, and when there are fingerings I rely too heavily on them, but this is still progress in the right direction. I’d like to not rely on them so much, but the music will gradually have fewer fingerings anyway. Perhaps I just need to force myself not to look at them (or cover them up in some form).

Thinking back, I definitely see a good amount of progress. Of course, there was bound to be some because I’ve never played the piano before. With all the benefits of the piano, I’m very glad I decided to pick it up! I’m also looking forward to seeing what this month has to offer me with music!!
